STEVEN BOTTERILL

This bibliography aims--while apologizing in advance for errors and omissions--to list all the noteworthy publications on Dante by scholars trained and/or resident in the British Isles that have appeared since 1980. Translations and comparative studies making only incidental reference to Dante are excluded. It is based on my own (1982-87) and others' contributions to The Year's Work in Modern Language Studies, and on the annual bibliographies of British and Irish italianistica that have appeared variously in Italian Studies and the Bulletin of the Society for Italian Studies in the period under review. For publications by British and Irish scholars in North American journals, I have also consulted the bibliographies that appear regularly in Dante Studies and Italica. My thanks to the compilers of all these invaluable reference sources.
